2024 Annual Meeting Press Release

Wadena, MN, April 22, 2024- With over 287 members and their guests in attendance, Todd-Wadena Electric Cooperative (TWEC) celebrated the 2024 Annual Meeting at Wadena’s Maslowski Wellness and Research Center on Tuesday, April 16th.

In his chairman’s message, Mile Kuschel reflected on the 2023 legislative session and highlighted the topics that the co-op worked on with legislators at a state and national level.  Kuschel briefly spoke on his trip to Zambia, Africa on behalf of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association with helping establish Zambia’s first electric cooperative. 

Dan Carlisle, TWEC President/CEO, reported on the Cooperative’s financial status, gave a short recap of 2023 rebates given back to members and co-op events, and educational presentations including electrical safety and state of the electric industry. He also highlighted the construction work of building and rebuilding new lines, and adding 112 new services in 2023. Carlisle also presented on Cyber Security and the training, policy, and best practices that the Co-op is using to safeguard its system. He also introduced the new wildfire mitigation policy and the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report the co-op created to highlight some of the unheralded things done at the Co-op.

Isabel Birkholtz, a senior at Staples-Motley High School, gave a short presentation on her youth tour trip to Washington, D.C. provided by Todd-Wadena. The 2024 Scholarship recipients were also invited and were presented a certificate by Todd-Wadena.

In the board of director elections, Nominating Committee Chair, Wally Weise announced that incumbents Tom Brichacek and Miles Kuschel were re-elected for a three-year term. An organizational meeting of the Board was held immediately following the Annual Meeting, resulting in the following officers re-elected: Miles Kuschel as Chair, Tom Brichacek as Vice Chair, Marie Katterhagen as Secretary, and Dale Adams selected as Treasurer.

During the meeting, members and guests were treated to a delicious meal which consisted of grilled chicken, rice, mixed veggies, and coleslaw, catered by the Clarissa Ballroom. Fourteen members left with cash door prizes.
