Great River Energy

Our wholesale power provider, Great River Energy (GRE), is located in Maple Grove, MN and is a not-for-profit generation and transmission electric cooperative owned by 27 member cooperatives. They maintain 5,100 miles of transmission lines and more than 100 substations to meet their members’ needs as efficiently and effectively as possible. In 2023, Todd-Wadena purchased 90% of its energy from GRE.

Great River Energy carefully designs and maintains a portfolio of power generation facilities and transmission resources to deliver reliable and affordable wholesale electricity to the regional electricity market and their member-owner cooperatives. Western Area Power Administration

The Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) is one of four power
marketing administrations within the U.S. Department of Energy
that markets and transmits wholesale electricity. Its service area
encompasses a 15-state region of the central and western U.S. where
its 17,293-circuit-mile transmission system carries electricity from 57
