TWEC & Politics…working for you

TWEC Candidates Forum

An often repeated phrase in the rural electric coop industry is “we were born in politics, and we’ll die in politics”. It’s true. A lot we do as an organization is influenced by state or federal oversight
In late September, I was part of a delegation, along with representatives from other Minnesota electric cooperatives, that met with our Minnesota congressional members in Washington D.C. We presented electric cooperative perspectives on items such as the clean power plan, energy taxes, energy storage and rural broadband. These items directly impact the way that we provide safe, reliable, reasonably priced energy to our members.
Also in September, TWEC sponsored a meet the candidate’s forum for our Minnesota legislative representatives and candidates. Six of the 8 candidates for various offices representing the Todd-Wadena service area attended the forum, and they were given the opportunity to state their platform on a number of issues as well as take questions from the voters in attendance.
One of the ways that TWEC supports congressional and legislative members is through an action committee for rural electrification (ACRE). ACRE is funded through contribution from electric cooperative directors, employees, and members. To find more resources and to get involved, go online to, or to become part of the Cooperative Action Network.
We will continue to navigate TWEC through the political waters for state and federal requirements. We will continue to work hard on your behalf to promote safe, reliable, reasonably priced energy for your homes, institutions and businesses.
