If you plant them, there will be shade

Grayson Magner’s job as Todd-Wadena Electric Cooperative’s Arborist usually Dower Lakeinvolves tree trimming and removal.  But he knows it’s also important to replace the trees that get taken down.

As part of our commitment to Arbor Day and giving back to the communities we serve, Todd-Wadena Electric Cooperative worked together with the City of Staples Parks and Recreation Department to plant trees at Dower Lake Recreational Area.  Magner, an ACRT Arborist, chose Dower Lake since TWEC recently assisted in removing a couple of dying oak trees in the park.Planting Trees

“We truly appreciate the generosity of TWEC,” said Kevin Grondahl, Director of the Staples Parks and Recreation Department.  “I know the trees will add to the beauty of the park.”

Grondahl worked with Magner to determine the types of trees to plant and where to plant them.  They made the decision to plant more mature trees rather than seedlings, that will be providing shade in no time at all.  Working with a crew from Carr’s Tree Service out of Ottertail, three Princeton Elm and three Autumn Blaze IMG_1856Maple trees were planted on May 26.  Both species of trees should grow to about 50 feet tall at full maturity.

TWEC was named a 2016 Tree Line USA recipient by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of their commitment to proper tree pruning, planting and care in their service area.  Todd-Wadena achieved Tree Line USA by meeting five program standards. IMG_1857 Utilities must follow industry standards for quality tree care; provide annual worker training in best tree practices; sponsor a tree-planting and public education program; maintain a tree-based energy conservation program; and participate in an Arbor Day celebration.

Todd-Wadena Electric Cooperative, based in Wadena, provides approximately 8,800 services to members primarily in Todd and Wadena Counties.  Find us online at www.toddwadena.coop, or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ToddWadenaElectricCooperative.
